Mr. Mattia is the founder of his law firm. Following graduation from law school, he served a judicial clerkship in the Superior Court of New Jersey which led to employment with the Office of the Attorney General of New Jersey, where he held the position of Deputy Attorney General. In this capacity, he progressed to handling major litigation at the trial and appellate levels, including successfully arguing a landmark case before the New Jersey Supreme Court.
In 1978, Mr. Mattia entered private practice where he first became involved in medical malpractice litigation. He successfully tried his first medical malpractice case in 1983. He became a partner in the firm the following year. Following this, he focused on developing and growing the firm's medical malpractice litigation.
In 1997, driven by his desire to practice exclusively in the field of medical professional liability, he started his own firm, Philip F. Mattia & Associates. The practice has expanded from representing primarily physicians in medical malpractice cases to representing them in matters before the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners as well as before hospital medical review panels and investigating committees. The practice also took on the representation of nurses, physical therapists, chiropractors and medical institutions.
Mr. Mattia has tried over 200 cases to a conclusion. His cases cover the full spectrum of medical specialties. He has been an invited speaker at numerous medical-legal conferences. He has been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a civil trial attorney since 1989.
In 2011, Mr. Mattia promoted his trusted associate , Michael J. McBride, Esq. to partner and renamed the firm Mattia and McBride.
